Two Contrasting Exhumation Scenarios of Deeply Subducted Continental Crust in North Pakistan

چکیده

In Western Himalayan Syntaxis, the India-Asia continental collision occurred at ca. 50 Ma, while its uplift history and exhumation mechanism are still in dispute despite decades of studies. A new type eclogite was found Naran, located 30 km southwest Upper Kaghan Valley. Phase equilibrium calculations thermobarometer performed on Naran documented peak-P metamorphic condition 720–780°C 2.4–2.8 GPa. Two further stages were identified with first one high-P granulite-facies conditions 750–800°C 1.6–1.9 GPa, second amphibolite-facies 550–630°C 0.5–0.8 SIMS U-Pb dating zircons yielded an age 46 ± 2 which is interpreted to constrain metamorphism along northwestern margin Indian plate. rutile a cooling 26 3 as amphibolite facies. The average speculated rate massif (∼3 mm a−1) much lower than that recovered from Valley (86–143 a−1). tectonic evolution whole Syntaxis shows difference temporal spatial change within Paleogene era, indicating inconsistent histories slices. Such multi-slice process probably related closure Neo-Tethys ocean break-off lithospheric slab.

The fate of subducted continental margins: Two-stage exhumation of the high-pressure to ultrahigh-pressure Western Gneiss Region, Norway

Thermobarometry suggests that ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) to high-pressure (HP) rocks across the Western Gneiss Region ponded at the Moho following as much as 100 km of exhumation through the mantle and before exhumation to the upper crust. Eclogite across the c. 22 000 km study area records minimum pressures of c. 8–18 kbar and temperatures of c. 650–780 C. One orthopyroxene eclogite yields an UH...

Remnants of Eoarchean continental crust derived from a subducted proto-arc

Eoarchean [3.6 to 4.0 billion years ago (Ga)] tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite (TTG) is the major component of Earth's oldest remnant continental crust, thereby holding the key to understanding how continental crust originated and when plate tectonics started in the early Earth. TTGs are mostly generated by partial melting of hydrated mafic rocks at different depths, but whether this requires...

Intermediate Alkali^Alumino-silicate Aqueous Solutions Released by Deeply Subducted Continental Crust: Fluid Evolution in UHP OH-richTopaz^Kyanite Quartzites from Donghai (Sulu, China)

Minerals, fluid inclusions and stable isotopes have been studied in ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) OH-rich topaz^kyanite quartzites from Hushan (west of Dongai), in southern Sulu (China). The quartzites underwent a metamorphic evolution characterized by a peak stage (3 5 GPa and 730^8208C) with the anhydrous assemblage coesiteþ kyanite I, followed by an early near-isothermal decompression stage (2 9 ...

Exhumation of (ultra-)high-pressure terranes: concepts and mechanisms

The formation and exhumation of high and ultrahigh-pressure, (U)HP, rocks of crustal origin appears to be ubiquitous during Phanerozoic plate subduction and continental collision events. Exhumation of (U)HP material has been shown in some orogens to have occurred only once, during a single short-lived event; in other cases exhumation appears to have occurred multiple discrete times or during a ...

Exhumation of high-pressure rocks driven by slab rollback

Rocks metamorphosed under high-pressure (HP) and ultra high-pressure (UHP) conditions in subduction zones come back to the surface relatively soon after their burial and at rates comparable to plate boundary velocities. In the Mediterranean realm, their occurrence in several belts related to a single subduction event shows that the burial-exhumation cycle is a recurrent transient process. Using...
